Adding Traction in the Winter

Too often drivers are left asking that age-old question: "What is best? Sand, kitty litter, or salt?" Here at Volvo Cars Erie, our service team has put together some of the pros and cons of each method for drivers.

Salt
Salt is a great way to melt excess ice on your driveway. It is more expensive, but it is the most practical method of keeping your driveway ice-free this winter. It can be harmful to pets, so be sure to keep a close eye on your four-legged friends!

Kitty Litter
Kitty litter is a common method of increasing traction in the winter. Unfortunately, simply because a method is common does not make it good. Kitty litter offers little benefit in the winter, and can actually reduce traction in some circumstances.

Sand
Sand is a tried and true method of increasing traction during the winter. While it doesn't melt ice and snow, it is a great way to increase your traction in the driveway.
